Jahan Loh is a visual artist from Singapore, active in the early popular street painting circles, it is worth attention to the high-end pop art presented in the traditional way and street art of skillfully blends, presented in his spectacular creations. His artwork in the streets is to create a combination of Eastern and Western aesthetics. Meanwhile, he prematures his unique beauty of art in the industry through his CHERRY POP exhibitions. Not only in local or overseas, his work has appeared in numerous exhibitions, who represented Singapore many big cities like New York, Los Angeles, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China over the display. Due to the fact that he uses a lot of mainstream culture, commercial advertising and the mass media imagery to re-create his work, his work has been assessed a strong pop art complex. When he is not in his studio work on his artwork, his name also appears often in collaborations with world’s major units, to him, art is not restricted to be created on a sheet of paper or a wall, he combines his art with fashion design, as VANS, Adidas, Carhartt, Devilock, Subcrew, HEX and other brands offer collaboration projects.

In his exciting new body of work, Jahan Loh recontextualizes well known iconography and pop cultural references to explore a contemporary story, shifting the meanings to explore themes specific to Singapore and beyond.
Working in mixed media and bronze, his graphic comics-based and iconic imagery introduces new ways of considering familiar narratives. As Loh says, “These icons drawn from mass media are not about getting instant popularity, but getting a connection to bring social subtleties into light, so that they may honestly be explored. From the superheroes that fight for justice in the comic world to the human heroes who make a difference every day in the real world, my new series of paintings are a record to the deeds of unseen heroes.”

About the Artist
A native Singaporean, Jahan Loh received his Bachelor’s degree from La Salle College of the Arts in Singapore and graduated with a Master’s degree in Design from the University of New South Wales in Australia. He received the Singapore Press Holdings Fine Arts Scholarship in 1996, and went on to win the first Nokia Arts Award in 1999, as well as the TIAF Taipei Special Award in 2005. He has exhibited in Hong Kong, Beijing, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne.
A visual artist whose roots are firmly entrenched in the polemics of both classical and street art, he merges traditional mediums with guerilla aesthetics to forge an inimitable style.
Based in Taiwan for 8 years, Jahan returned to Singapore in 2011 and is practicing art full time.
