This is the damage done by economies of scale. ie the Walmartization and big box stores. It turns proud business owners that supported good paying jobs for several other families as well as supporting their own family into cashiers or shelf stockers that can no longer even support their own family. And the conservative response is that they should "better themselves" if they want higher than minimum wage.
