Cinemash Up! line up!

This February cinemash up is all about vintage- we have the first version of Alice in wonderland – a silent film made in 1908- this gorgeous 10 minute exert is all that remains from the classic hand tinted original. This is very rare clip has been beautifully restored by the hardworking restorative team at BFI and a little birdy who works there slipped this over to me- very special screening!!

We also have classic 19th Century Oriental ism  from Master Melies who was the grand daddy of special effects. This great film titled Tchin- Chao- the Chinese Conjurer – made in 1904 is a hilarious rose tinted view of the middle kingdom.

What Vintage film night would be complete without Man Ray- 1928 Letoile De Mer (the starfish) is another rare film from Man Ray, who predominately a photographer, only made about 6 short films.

Moving through the vaults we come to the 1930s to see Betty Boop do her best Dizzy Red Riding Hood.

Old films are then reworked by contempoary found film legend  Bill Morrison who specialises in reconstructing and deconstructing old films, focusing on the beauty of disintergration. “Light is Calling” This is an old film reel from Confederate America days that has been burnt and decomposed to produce a haunting piece, teamed up by a fantastic contemporary sound track.

And for those Gen Ys who have uber cravings, don’t fret, there is plenty of fantastic contempoary films from young film makers from around the world,

Films start at 9pm at Dada Bar- Dont miss out the chance to see rare and vintage pieces that remind you of where it all began

Cheers
