I should have blogged earlier, but the cold in Vancouver finally caught up with me. I was way under the weather after the fabulous festival ended. It felt like homecoming being up there with Shopping for Fangs opening the festival 10 years ago. Justin Lin was back with Finishing the Game opening the fest, and my doc. 0506HK closed it.
It was great meeting fellow AnD artist Jae-Ho Chang and filmmaker Fay Ann Lee whose feature Falling for Grace will be opening up in Vancouver. Festival organizers Barbara Lee, Don Montgomery and Peter Leung took us out to a chic Japanese restaurant called Tojo's and fed us with first class sushi. As Justin said in his panel, Asian American filmmakers and artists really have to stick together to develop a market for our films.
It was also great to catch up and dance with superstar Roger Fan, party girls Juliette and Alice all night long. Somewhere past midnight, I thought I saw Roger took out two glow sticks and a whistle and started dancing with his shirt off. Was that my wishful thinking or an actual hallucination after three Patron shots & something else?
Ten minutes before my screening, I found out that they had gotten the wrong tape deck for my film. Barbara was frantically on the phone as everyone was lined up outside the theater. I was thrown into a bit of a panic, but I also realized that there wasn't much I could do other than show the DVD which was at a significantly lower resolution. But the DVD was not there!
Twenty minutes later the DVD came. I apologized to the audience and off with the screening!
