FarWest will team-up with multiple Asian partners across the region to develop and launch a breakthrough Asian musical girl group for the international entertainment industry.
This truly unique project has already drawn almost 20,000 fans through global social networking site Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/lotusasia) since the viral launch in early May. Project Lotus offers the opportunity for talented Asian female singers to become artistic Ambassadors for their country to the rest of the world.
Auditions in the major cities across Asia will commence on August 15, 2010. Five girls will be selected each from South East Asia, Japan, Korea, India and the Chinese Territories, and the twenty-five finalists will be based in HK for an intensive training academy which will run from September 15 – October 30, 2010. They will attend clinics in singing, dancing, choreography, styling, stage performance, nutrition, physical training and media management. Each week, groups of five will perform live for a celebrity panel of judges and industry experts from Asia and the West, and one will be sent home from each country. At the end of the training, the final five members will form a new girl group (to be named later) and record an album at Eliot Kennedy’s UK studio. The entire recording process will be filmed for a special TV production.
Before the auditions, Kennedy will host a “writer’s camp” at Peter Gabriel’s studio inthe UK from June 6-11, hosting of 20 of today’s top pop song writers including Gary Barlow from Take That, Alisha Dixon from Ace of Base, Lil Boots, and Jonathan Wong. They will start writing for the music tracks to be featured in the girls’ debut album.
SaysJon Niermann, the project’s Executive Producer and award-winning host of Asian talk show Asia Uncut, “The timing for this project is ideal and we are creating a group that will showcase the incredible talent that Asia has to offer to the world. The top professionals we gathered onboard for this project are absolutely enthusiastic about its potential. It is amazing to see how many people are passionate to the cause of giving Asian artists their spotlight in the international music scene.”
Producers will be touring the main cities in Asia to seek out their best talents and audition candidates forwarded from performing art schools, modeling agencies and local artiste management companies. Any girl aged 18-25 with “lead singer” quality and the ability to dance and to sing in English can also upload their video for consideration via the www.projectlotus.tv website. To be able to play a musical instrument will be an added advantage.

Says TV Producer cum Director Brian Grant, “It is important to note that this is not just a ‘talent show’ we are making for TV. We are developing a talented team of performers, hand-picked by the industry’s top professionals who have discovered many of the greatest stars of our time. We want a group with longevity in the music business and it is our hope to develop them into a global music sensation. The TV production is really a documentary of their progress and birth. Our cameras will travel alongside these girls as they embark on their journey from amateurs into true performers and finally into global stars.
Says Producer and Creative Director Eliot Kennedy, “I’ve been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with some of this century’s greatest artistes like the Spice Girls, Bryan Adams, Aretha Franklin, Robbie Williams and Celine Dion, and I’m absolutely excited to be developing this project. We look at this as an opportunity for these girls to become ambassadors of their countries and showcase their talent to the rest of the world. In time, the girls can also launch individual careers in their own homeland, singing in the local language.”
The TV show will be broadcasted across Asia and also the US and Europe. Their album and touring schedule will also be out first half of 2011.
Chips in Niermann, “This is really Asia’s time on the world stage, and there’s no better way to connect the world than through music and entertainment. We hope we will build a group that will blaze the way for more talented Asian performers in the international entertainment scene.
