GCS 025: "Scream 2" by Wes Craven

Someone has taken their love of sequels one step too far.

Alright, some of you might have freaked out when they read the title of the movie that I'm presenting, but you know what? Scream was the franchise that revived horror movies when they were down!  And the first Scream is still an amazing horror/thriller. Now the reason why I'm quoting the second is because of one special scene that you can see down here, so here is

Scream 2 (1997) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120082/maindetails

It has been two years since the tragic events at Woodsboro. Sidney Prescott and Randy Meeks are trying to get on with their lives, and are currently both students at Windsor College. Cotton Weary is out of prison, and is trying to cash in on his unfortunate incarceration. Gale Weathers has written a bestseller, "The Woodsboro Murders," which has been turned into the film, "Stab," starring Tori Spelling as Sidney. As the film's play date approaches, the cycle of death begins anew. Dewey Riley immediately flies out of Woodsboro to try to protect Sidney, his "surrogate sister." But in this sequel to the 1996 horror film, the number of suspects only goes down as the body count slowly goes up!

Fun Facts:

  • Not only was the cast not informed who the killer was until the last Day of shooting, they also didn't receive the last 10 pages of the scrīpt until it was time to film them. The last 10 pages were also printed on grey paper, therefore making them unable to be illicitly Xeroxed. All cast members had to sign contracts that they would not discuss the movie's outcome or the killer's identity with the media.

  • The striped sweater of Freddy Krueger can be seen hanging in Sydney's dorm room while she watches Cotton on television.

  • The rules for a horror movie sequel - as laid out by Randy in the film - are (1) the body count is always bigger and (2) the death scenes are always much more elaborate with more blood and gore.

And the scene I chose is of course the death of the best character of Scream: Randy!

actually, worse has happened once: during Usual Suspects, Singer the director never told Gabriel Byrne that he wasn't Kayser Soze, Byrne learned that during the first screening of the movie and was pretty pissed! :p

Scream's were great. I didn't really feel they were horror movies, even though I guess they fall into that category, but felt they were more suspense thrillers. Either way they were really good movies heh, well at least the first two were third was kinda so so.
