Asia’s cities are a source of growth and a magnet of opportunity for businesses in terms of economic strength, physical capital, financial maturity, institutional character, human capital, global appeal, social & cultural character and environment & natural hazards.
The most competitive Asian cities possibly in near future across the four Asian Tigers (Seoul and Incheon in South Korea, Taipei in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore) and the advanced economies of the region (Tokyo, Sydney and Melbourne).
The best-performing Chinese city is still in Shanghai. The South-East Asia region is possibly our home, Kuala Lumpur. Other rapidly growing cities are Bangkok, Jakarta, and Hanoi, are struggling to keep pace.
In South Asia, the Indian cities of Delhi and Mumbai. While in Dhaka, one of the world’s fastest-growing cities, is a reminder (although the ascent of the bourgeoning cities of Delhi and Mumbai may appear to suggest otherwise) that there is no automatic correlation between rapid urbanisation and population growth and competitiveness. Could be a good indicator.
