Went to Beidaihe 北戴河, Hebei Provincefor a weekend by the seaside of the Yellow Sea (is the nearest resort coastline to Beijing - 3 hours-ish by train) ..... breezy sunny weather, lots of fresh swimming seafood and ice cold local beers ... enjoyed a mellow & laid-back couple of days ...
the outcome of a MSN chat i had with my little bro Amy last Friday, concluded with the understanding that i needed to set-up a "feng shui" placement in my apartment, as per her amateur recommendations - her knowledge attained via many mis-spent hours reading in magazines and watching on CableTV, the wise and wiley teachings of feng shui guru ... the great Master So Man Fung -- oh yes, the true pony-tailed one!
she was adamant (i do have reason trust her) that in order to spin a posit...Read more
Here are my twocents on how I would rank Beijing's "touristy" spots
So called "Must-Sees":
My mate Ken had a biz trip to Shanghai for the whole of last week, so I decided to jump onto a discount flight from Beijing and mooch a stay in his hotel room .... for my first visit to the city called the "Pearl of the Orient" and also pay a visit to the oddly shaped Oriental Pearl Tower ...
Looking across the Huang Pu River over to Shanghai's Bund this afternoon .... it was a touching and the saddest view ... all the Chinese flags that i could see were hanging at half mast and a solitary barge carrying a giant LCD billboard was sailing down river ...... with the poignant thoughts of an entire Nation (if not the World) written on it ...
Spent the week being good little-brother tour guide, doing all the key "touristy" locations in Beijing with my sis and hubby .... more words and pics to come (when i get round to it and when the mood is right).
For now, thought I'd share with everyone the few fun shots taken the last couple of days .... to cheer everyone up a little after this horrible week ...
I gotta feeling they mean "No Grafitti" when riding the Badaling Great Wall Cable Car
My sis is visiting me for a few days and its her for the first time here in BJ. She flew-in with my bro-in-law from HK this afternoon. Submitting to their seemingly restless desire to instantly visit Tian'anmen and to pay homage to Chairman Mao's portrait, once they dumped their luggage in the lounge of my apartment, we fiendishly zoomed in a taxi (through the early rush hour traffic) to Wangfujing 王府井 and set-off on foot for the Square, hoping to reach it before dusk for some touristy photo-taking ....Read more
I'm back in BJ ....
Flew in and out of the new T3 at Beijing Airport this trip - it's great! .... it really is like a mini Chek Lap Kok ... with a Burger King included .... if my cravings get bad enough, i seriously believe i would jump into a taxi from Chaoyang to T3 to satiate my desires for a couple of flame grilled Whoppers "my way".... kudos to "Harold & Kumar go to White Castle" .... can't wait for the sequel this summer ....
here's the trailer for those interested and ha...Read more
I had the lucky experience today, to ride on the taxi of HK's most senior cab driver (self professed). As we edged through the early rush-hour traffic from North Point to Causeway Bay, Mr. Leung Fai, proudly shared that he was 72 years young, had been driving a taxi for 51 years and the Transport Department had just renewed his driver's license for another three more years ...... it was a bit of an uncanny experience zigzagging across the lanes on the Eastern Corridor, in the back of a cab, with an OAP at the wheel, driving like Ri...Read more
Lately i believe i'm getting more and more enigmatic (sadly, not by choice) ... a horizontally challenged man of many confused, yet complex layers amidst extrem
