I liked Chris Cornell, I always thought he had a great rock voice. I saw Soundgarden play live at Reading Festival '95. It became one of my most favourite gigs ever. They were sandwiched between Pavement and Neil Young (with Pearl Jam). I don't remember him saying much on stage apart from, "Sorry about last year" because they had to cancel. Kim Thail wore a Tool T-shirt and I remember some pissed off metal boyfriend with a REALLY sour face and an attitude and his apologetic(?) GF following behind while he stomped his way through the crowd towards the back and everyone moving out of his way like the Red Sea...myself included.
Afterwards, Neil Young took AGES to come onstage due to a technical issue and the crowd was obviously restless. Over the PA a couple of roadies said to each other, "Is that the one?" - "Yes, got it."...and the crowd cheered. Young and Pearl Jam came on seconds later.
