Singapore, which has hosted film festivals from Israel and Germany in recent years, is opening its doors to France.
In December, “ 1st Rendezvous with French Cinema“ will showcase some of the country’s latest movies across the island. It has been designed as a platform to allow French business and industry players to network with each other in the business-friendly island state.
“Singapore has rapidly developed into an important regional media and cultural hub where there will be strong support for a confluence of the art and business of cinema,” said H.E. Olivier Caron, the French ambassador to Singapore. “Through cinema, we hope to further strengthen the already robust cultural and economic ties that both France and Singapore share.” Festival organizers declined to disclose the budget for the festival.
Bringing a taste of Cannes to Singapore, the festival will also include a red carpet event on Dec. 7, featuring French actress Carole Bouquet of 1981 James Bond fame, and other directors and actresses, including Ludivine Sagnier, known for her role in the 2003 movie “Swimming Pool.” Among the newer title, the festival will feature a retrospective of Carole Bouquet’s best known French films.
