Malaysian filmmakers have been urged to come up with more creative scrīpts without neglecting the need for content that is suitable for local culture.
Besides providing entertainment, films were also a powerful medium that could shape the development of a nation, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“With its ability to transcend borders regardless of gender, ideology and demography, films are the best weapon to influence the minds of the people,” he said before opening the 24th Malaysian Film Festival 2011 at Lake Gardens here yesterday.
Muhyiddin added that such creative scrīpts could also instill moral values and unity.
To date, he said, the Malaysian film industry had generated RM86mil this year through 35 movies.
