Was photographing my studly husband, when the tables turned and he took a few snaps of me. I will post portraits I take of people in the near future, but until then, enjoy my mug! Selfies and Instagram portraiture have always fascinated me. There's something narcissistic about it, but also creatively freeing. Selfies are self-expression, a label usually only reserved for "art", and in this day and age it's available to everyone at the press of a button. Remember when we would put up posters of our favorite singers or actors? Now there's a way to idolize ourselves, to become our own role models, to fake it till you make it. Selfies are such an interesting function of our current times, and I'm no longer going to be afraid to play this game with the rest of the young world. Who knows? Maybe by the end, I will write a thesis on adolescent use of social media in identity development. At the very least, I'll be able to continue to put teenage characters on screen without feeling like I don't get them. Here I am, wearing one of my favorite thrift store sweater finds with a vintage Minolta camera bag. Hello!
Happy viewing! I look forward to meeting you all!
