I finally had an evening alone to reminisce and settle down. So I decided to watch "New York, I Love You" a series of mini films with the theme around finding "Love" In New York City.-----------------I chose to watch this film for several reasons.#ONE: To Get my mind back to the Creative side again & to Reminisce the very raw artistic days back in New York City. Verdict: Definitely jogged my memory back in the artistic days in New York City & reinspired me back to "life."#TWO: There are Asian Artists as leads in this Film and I wanted to see how they did in a Hollywood film. (i.e. Maggie Q & Shu Qi)Verdict: I think this is one of Maggie's better work & she had more screen presence that her previous films. Her character was coy & interesting. Thumbs up to Maggie QVerdict: Shu Qi played a young girl who was basically dying on the inside until she found life. Good for her for doing an English speaking film.#Three: To Watch Natalie Portman & her work as both Actor and Filmmaker. (I'm a big fan of hers. Did you know she has been a vegan since 12 years old? I think people who don't eat meat are just more talented... HAHAHHA just kidding, actually, not really.)Verdict: Natalie Portman never fails to impress me with her acting. Her craft & presence on screen makes you really get to know her, her character on a very intimate level. You automatically get moved by her emotions because you can relate so well. I love her work so much & look forward to seeing more. It is so inspiring to me as an actressVerdict: Natalie Portman got to make one of the other films with a little girl in it. It was so sensitive, beautiful, moving and had the quality of innocence inside. Firstly, I don't think she'll ever run out of work as an actress, but she IF she ever decided to retire, she would do very well as a filmmaker. I hope she casts me one day.#Four: I wanted to see the different types of love stories unfolding in this movie. I thought that would be the extent of my love life for nowVerdict: Extremely moving since they showed love in every nook& cranny. I especially enjoyed the love between the old couple. It makes me believe that in this day and age, there is still love that can last that long... So I leave this review with a positive note."New York, I Love You" is not the typical Hollywood film.As a fellow New Yorker/Artist/Romantic, this movie was enjoyed as I sat alone next to a couple stuffing my face with tofu & sweet potatoe. What better way to spend a solo evening? P.S.Just like the romance of the movie, as I walked home, contemplating in my solitude, I looked down and saw this on the streets of Taipei:It was a gift from my invisible date! So I took it home and put it in some water. I know, it's like it's straight from a movie. I swear, I'm not making it up!
