CANADIAN MISSION TO MUSIC MATTERS

Five of Canada’s ‘most promising artists’ to perform at The Asia Pacific Music

Forum

Music Matters is delighted to announce that some of the hottest up and coming Canadian bands have confirmed to perform in Hong Kong at a ‘Canadian Blast’ showcase during this years conference and festival.

Music Matters provides a one-stop access point to anyone interested in the Asia Pacific

entertainment business. Attended by over 300 companies every year in Hong Kong the forum features artist workshops, mentor sessions, live showcases and networking events. Music Matters attracts a wealth of entertainment industry leaders, and with over 70 speakers confirmed and multi-Grammy winner Jason Mraz closing the show, this year will be no exception.

Canada is home to some of the world’s biggest music artists including: K’NAAN, Celine Dion, Michael Bublé, Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber and Simple Plan. Canada’s next generation of musical stars are scheduled to perform during Music Matters forum and at Music Matters Live, which will be open to the general public on May 29, 2010 at The Cavern Club.

The emerging Canadian bands confirmed to perform are:

Jully Black - Multi-award winning dance/urban/rock performer, songwriter and television personality, Jully is a powerful force performing at U.S. President Bill Clinton’s 60th birthday party and during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. In addition to gold CD, Destiny’s Child and Nas have recorded her songs.

delhi 2 dublin - Where else would you see a whirling dervish fiddle player, a guitar/sitar player in a kilt, two constantly in motion percussionists (one Dhol player and one Tablas player) and a singer with the ruggedly handsome good looks of a Bollywood idol? Delhi 2 dublin transcend sterotypes and lets the music speak for itself on their numerous tours.

D.O. - The journey began when D.O. set a Guinness World Record for the longest freestyle rap, clocking in at an astounding 8 hours 45 minutes. It continues with tours throughout Canada and the USA. Legendary MC Chuck D of Public Enemy has said: “D.O. represents the new breed of MCs putting heat on the status quo of the rap game.

Inward Eye - With a sound reminiscent of The Jam, The Kinks, The Who, this trio of brothers is

quickly gathering a rabid and ever-increasing fan base. Performing on the Warped Tour, Lollapalooza festival and opening for The Who’s Canadian tour Inward Eye bring back spontaneity to rock shows.

DD/MM/YYYY - Pronounced Day Month Year, their ‘no-style’ approach to music is receiving rave

reviews from the critics including: The Village Voice, Time Out NYC, CMJ. Inspired by Frank Zappa, Melt Banana, DADA art and video games DD/MM/YYYY is gathering fans through frequent tours of Canada, USA and Europe.

The ‘Canadian Blast’ is presented by Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) and Canadian Music Week (CMW) with the support of The Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC); Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Province of Ontario; Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; and Radio Starmaker.

Speaking about the forthcoming showcase, Duncan McKie, President & CEO, Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) said, “Experts in the Asian music market have all told us that Hong Kong is the gateway to the region. Music Matters assembles the most influential players in the Asian music industry and makes them available one-on-one with the best emerging musical talent and entrepreneurs from Canada. Following Canadian Music Weeks visit to Music Matters in 2008 and again in 2009, CIMA is proud to be associated with the 2010 version which promises to be the best yet.”

Music Matters’ President Jasper Donat said, “We have been working closely with CIMA and the

team Canadian Music Week in Asia and Canada for three years now and are delighted that our combined efforts are delivering such a high caliber of artists to Music Matters. In fact, the

bands are so good we’ve invited them to play twice, once for the conference, and once to the

general public!”

Neill Dixon, President, Canadian Music Week said on the occasion, “Asia has been Canadian Music Week's focus for export development for the past three years. We are grateful to Music Matters for their belief in our emerging artists and we are proud to present with CIMA, for the first time in Hong Kong, five of Canada's most promising new artists. Don't miss it!"
