Biography
As a director of photography, Matt Siegel lights and composes for commercials, feature films, documentaries, episodic television, and music videos. His bold style can be seen in high-end commercials. His understanding of complex set ups and special FX can be witnessed on studio features.
Not afraid to run and gun, his credit list includes projects with Discovery Network, National Geographic, NBC/Dateline, and ABC/ESPN.
Commercials
The controversial Sprite "Extreme" campaign earned a gold CLIO award, advertising’s highest honor. His stylized work for NIKE/NCAA Woman’s Basketball has been recognized with JOEY and TELE awards.
Television
Matt teamed with Comedy Central on Season 3 of Tosh.0
He has served as Camera Operator and 2nd Unit DP on the top rated CBS series “The Mentalist,” the WB series "Everwood," the CBS drama "Joan of Arcadia," and the Jerry Bruckheimer series "Just Legal.”
Matt traveled the world for the ABC/ESPN sports special "Game For Anything." Other network programs include Discovery Channel’s "Bridges, Skyscrapers, and Tunnels,” Nickelodeon’s "Hervic In Cloudland," and the CW Network’s children’s series "Phantom Investigators.”
Feature Films
Theatrical features include Magic, Mexican Werewolf in Texas, Raising Genius, Simon, Between Us, and Crime Partners. As a camera operator, Matt has over a decade of experience on Hollywood blockbusters including Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Master and Commander, and The Matrix Reloaded.
Success in the short film genre includes Ripple and TallGIRL, which screened at Cannes and Sundance respectively. Other short format work has screened at the Chicago, LA, Slamdance, and Toronto Film Festivals.
High Definition and 3D
As an instructor and consultant for Panasonic's advanced P2HD and AVCHD systems, Matt presents workshops throughout the USA and Asia. He also worked with SONY R&D for their CineAlta camera systems.
With the increased popularity of 3D, Matt’s background in VFX has been invaluable. He facilitates training and works on set as a DP and stereo technician for 3D productions.
Film Award
Matt received the prestigious Eastman-Kodak Cinematography Award, which included study at the Academy of Drama and Film in Budapest, Hungary.
Teaching Experience
Matt has been the Chairman of Training and New Technology for the International Cinematographers Guild (2003-2006). He serves on that organization’s Western Regional Council and National Executive Board.
He brought his professional knowledge and experience to the classroom as an Assistant Arts Professor at New York University Tisch School of the Arts in Singapore. In addition, he has been a faculty member at The International Film and Digital Workshops in Rockport, Maine.
