Today marks one year of me being in Hong Kong. I moved to Hong Kong on January 9, which is tomorrow. I guess today is one year, and tomorrow is the anniversary? How does that work, excactly? Meh .. whatever.
Hard to believe how quickly the past year went by, and hard to believe how much stuff happened over the course of that year.
I'm actually home and under the weather right now. Not the best way to celebrate the day, but it's giving me some time to be alone and ponder my place in the universe. I went to the gym yesterday, as I've found that exercise can help me feel better when I'm not feeling well, and it helped a bit. So I might go down there again today as well.
In the meantime, I'm busy designing (and re-designing) a website for a film project that will soon be here, integrated with AliveNotDead. You can all look out for that in a few weeks time.
Here is a photo I took when I was coming to Hong Kong. I came from Seoul, where I was visiting Jisue. This is at the Incheon airport.
I wonder what is in store for the next year. Once again I will be moving to a new home. Same job though, so that's good.
I realized last night that the past several Christmases have all been pretty interesting, in that they are somewhat representative of what was going on with me at that time in my life.
2007: Here in Hong Kong
2006: in Xiamen with Peter Wong
2005: in Xiamen with Beaver and Li Qiang
2004: In Emeryville
2003: In Idaho, on my way from L.A. to the Bay Area
2002: In L.A., while working for the Li's.
I also noticed that I've pretty much moved almost every year in the last decade or so .. here is the run-down ...
1994: Moved from Seattle to Nob Hill, San Francisco
1995: Moved from Nob Hill to Pacific Heights, then 3 months later moved to Oakland
1997: Moved from one place in Oakland to another
1998: Moved from Oakland to Albany
2000: Moved from Albany to Berkeley
2001: Moved from Berkeley to Irvine, then from Irvine to Long Beach, then from Long Beach to South Pasadena
2002: Moved from South Pasadena to West Covina
2003: Moved from West Covina to Arcadia
2004: Moved from Arcadia to Emeryville
2005: Moved from Emeryville to Shanghai
2006: Moved from one place in Shanghai to another
2007: Moved from Shanghai to Hong Kong
2008: Moving from one place in Hong Kong to another.
That's 17 different places I've lived in during the past 14 years. I think it's probably time for me to find a more permanent homestead.
I'm getting pretty good at packing though .. I guess that's a positive. 2001 was a crazy year for that. I had a small Nissan Sentra and was able to put everything I owned into the trunk. Talk about living light.
In any case, I'm hoping that my next move will be the last one for at least 2 years. I mean ... I'm not sure I want to be in Hong Kong for the long term, but on the other hand I would like to not have to move again a year down the road, if possible. I feel like I'm back in College, moving in and out of dorms every half year ...
Okay .. my head is a little dizzy now. ... time to lie down for a bit.
