When people reflect on the Umbrella Movement in the future, most of what will be used to illustrate the movement will be photographs of artifacts produced during the protest and photographs taken at the protest sites. This has been a movement of the people, by the people, and for the people. There was a huge outpouring of visual creativity, as well as song, poetry, and editorials that are all important for capturing this historic time in the history of HK and China. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. To better understand what the movement meant to various stakeholders, examining the visual record is key. I hope a permanent archival home will be found for these materials so they can be analyzed now and in the future and a fuller picture of this movement presented.
