Anyone who has taken a cursory glance at my blog can tell that I like cats. I have liked cats since I met the first one, and it has generally been a mutual admiration society. I always like it when I run across other people who like cats, especially if they draw great cats. Perhaps the greatest cat artist is Ronald Searle. I don't really know his bio nor much else of his career (except those Saint Trinnian's cartoons), but I have been a fan of his cats since the mid-70s when I stumbled across "Searle's Cats" in the university library my Freshman year of college. I didn't have too much luck finding a lot of the pictures from that book on-line and I'm not sure where my own copy is right at the moment (and then I'd also have to learn how to use the scanner). But I think you get the idea from the pics below. You can still pick up a reissue of the book on Amazon, though the 1967 first edition seems to be highly coveted. I wonder if I have a first edition? I bought it used in the 1980s. Time to go and look for that book.
Back to square one.
