This past weekend I had the pleasure of going to Fort Worth Texas. Was visiting my ailing Grandmother. My Texan relatives are interesting folks, always an inspiration athletically for me. A bunch of wrestlers and weight lifters.
There is a throwback area in Fort Worth called the Stockyards. Cowboy stuff, Rodeos, Dung, 10 gallon hats.
We went down to the Rodeo and saw a few guys get tossed, saw some fancy riding and ended up at Billy Bob's. It is a huge country bar, they have tons of food, live music (Eric Church Band was playing) Two-Step Dancing, Bull Riding indoors everything you can imagine.
The place was so calm and well-behaved. As compared to any club in The City here, no one was too rowdy. I think I was the loudest person there. Little belligerence. Perhaps it had a Disneyland quality that kept everyone low key but maybe it was just a Southern characteristic of being a bit more mellow.
You can see the skyline 360 degrees around you. There are no hills and not much to look at. Land of the mega churches. few trees. 90 degrees and HUMID.
An interesting place but so small. My uncle asked me if I saw a famous part of town where lots of stuff was supposed to be happening and i honestly couldn't tell him yes or no, i couldn't identify anything special in the entire town. The entire downtown was about 5 skyscrapers of medium height (2 of which were the hotel I was in).
It's amazing to see a smaller scale city like that, to come to SF you feel it is huge. Then go to Manhatten and it makes SF paltry!
