Spent ten days in Australia. Will share the photos if I have the time to post them up. Hopefully. Haha Meanwhile, this is our family photo at my brother’s Trinity College Valedictory Ceremony. He came back to Singapore to serve National Service, before he returns to Australia to study in a few years’ time.
Two days ago, I went to meet one of my directors. She let me watch the completed short film, “烟的香” (Sweet Redolence). Pity I couldn’t get a copy of the DVD yet, ‘cos some problems occurred with her laptop. Anyway, this was one of the projects which turned out quite well.
Sometimes when I do these short films, the final product is edited such that it is different from the original scrīpt I looked at. Although this film was altered slightly, and some parts were cut out, the story was still understandable in the end. AND I could watch the film without cringing, as I used to do while watching some of my earlier performances. Probably because I’ve learnt to manage my performances onscreen. Hmmmm.
After I watched it, the director asked if I was satisfied with my performance. I said, “Yes.” But after coming home & thinking about it for awhile, I think I could have improved on my characterisation and intensified the emotions I portrayed. Even though my aloofness was meant as a contrast to my co-actor’s nervousness, I could have raised the stakes by investing more in the relationship. Oh well. If you didn’t understand that, never mind. Haha
She said she was neurotic, and felt that the film could have been improved in so many ways. But, as I told her, I feel she can have a re-look at this project years down the road, perhaps improve upon the ideas & story and use it to create a whole new film. Like Kelvin Sng & his “More Than Words” project.
Every film is a learning experience.
UPCOMING PERFORMANCE
I’ll be performing in a Republic Poly stage play this Sunday. It’s part of their FYP, and I’ll be playing a supporting role. The story is based on “Wicker Park”, a 2004 movie starring Josh Hartnett.
**Title: Ri Gret
Date: 21 Dec 2008 (Sunday)
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Venue: The Republic Cultural Centre, Black Box
** Entry by tickets only**
I haven’t done a stage play for one and a half years. So this is a good way to gain experience, before my next performance next February in Jubilee Hall. Let me know if any of you want to attend. I’ll get you tickets.
Been doing a lot of thinking recently. Too much time on my hands. Wondering how to breakthrough. Frustrated at my situation and questioning if I’m doing the right things. Argh. Why am I wasting my time away??
