On The Day Obama Triumphed

Tears came to my eyes when I watched John McCain give his final speech of this election campaign. In my mind, John McCain should be the next President of the USA. His experience in foreign affairs & war will stand America in good stead, and to me, he is the stability that America & the world needs during these turbulent times.

But America voted for “Change”. Obama is a good man, and will lead the country with integrity. He is a symbol of the American Dream, but how long will this dream last? Will reality bite when Obama steps into his first year in office? Will expectations be too much for him to meet?

Sometimes change can be painful. If Obama means to be a good President, he will have to make decisions which the people may not support, but which will be good for the nation in the long run. Racking up high spending deficits is not the way to go, even if he wants to implement his healthcare plans & tax cuts. For America’s sake, and for “the planet in peril”, I pray that Obama will bring the change he promised in a sensible and considered manner.

Haha. At the very least, as someone commented to me today, Obama might ensure that terrorists do not target Americans as much. Since he is from a minority race. But well, that’s not the issue. McCain lost because of two reasons: Palin & Bush. ‘Nuff said.

On this historical day, 4 Nov 2008 (5 Nov, Singapore), I woke up at 5:30 a.m.

Early in the morning, I went to church in Jurong West for the prayer meeting. It was a refreshing time, although halfway through I was distracted by thoughts of the U.S. General Election & what it would mean for the world at large.

Nevertheless, I came home feeling not that tired, although I had less than 4 hours of sleep the night before. Spent the day watching CNN & the U.S. Election Day Reports before leaving my house to venture to my shoot for the short film, “Red Rose”. Basically, I play the girlfriend role again. Incidentally, this is the first time my character dies in the story, a new experience for me of sorts. Haha.

**Stephanie - the make-up artist

Such a perfectionist. She touched up my make-up again & again for 1 hour plus, even though I only appeared on-screen for probably less than 30 seconds. After all her hard work, the Director told her that I didn’t need make-up ‘cos I’m supposed to be merely a silhouette in this scene. But I appreciate her efforts!**

Their age difference is 12 years. I am 5 years younger than Beng-lee & 7 years older than Wenjie, though you probably couldn’t guess it from this picture. We look forever young! Haha. Embroiled in a love tangle which is a story thread through “Red Rose”. I am with one guy, before falling totally in love with the other, to the point of dying with him. Romance, in violent times.****

*Clowning around after “It’s a Wrap!” for the day. Wackiness abounds.*

New acquaintances. Meeting up with people I’ve worked with in the past. Got some encouragement from Sunny, who I chatted with about his upcoming project & my next short film. He said, “I believe in you.” Words like that mean a lot to me. This circle is unpredictable, and only belief can bring us through each day.

Shooting an intimate scene for “Red Rose” tomorrow. After that, I’ve a rehearsal in the evening for “Cubik”. The final rehearsal before our shoot commences on Saturday. Early morning prayer meetings tomorrow & Friday. Still waiting for a callback for the auditions I went for - but hope is fast fading.

Oh well, even if this falls through, I’ll live to fight another day. :) Just like McCain.
