These things often DO NOT end up at the appropriate facilities and are becoming part of an escalating global waste problem. Besides ruining our natural environment by taking up landfills, stray garbage always ends up in our oceans and rivers destroying and poisoning our ecosystem at an alarming rate, affecting the quality and health of our life on earth. I have always been one of the individuals responsible for this. A plastic cup in particular takes approximately 450 years to decompose and that's pretty crazy aftermath for just having a drink. I now try my best to reduce and to be somewhat responsible for my own items and send them to a legitimate recycling plant. This isn't the ultimate solution and I look forward to a day when we can switch to biodegradable on a large scale. Whether you are a "zero waste person" or a "reuse recycle", I believe in order to arrive at better solutions, it is important to cultivate a culture and mindset of being accountable for everything. This is a universal challenge.
