Just finished watching Robert Bresson's Pickpocket, a really nice film about the life of a pickpocket. As people know, Bresson's technique is interesting, especially with the way he treated his actors, which he called "models". check http://www.sensesofcinema.com/contents/directors/02/bresson.html for a more detailed analysis of his style and works..
i watched it on the criterion dvd and there are some extra materials, including an interview with the director for some french tv programs. that is quite an interesting one since the interview looks more like an interrogation and the director looks quite uncomfortable answering the questions.. though he is very intellectual and tackles the tough questions very well.. i especially like what he said in the end:
host: do you feel very alone? (in terms of his artistic exploration i assume..)
bresson: yes, i feel very alone, but i derive no pleasure from that feeling...
to some extent, i am sure that is what a lot of artists (including myself) feel too..
as a side note, look at the screen cap below.. that is the lead female of the film, it is surprising that she looks almost exactly like natalie portman...
Don't forget your dream!
