saw the film yesterday, it's more or less expected, basically it wants to convey a simple point: we have a broken healthcare system and a lot of people are suffering.
just like what most moore's films are, it is like a one-sided story, and we are exposed all the bad things about the system in US, and all the good things about other countries like england, france, canada and even cuba, that are providing universal healthcare to everyone, including some americans going to cuba for treatment. is it a good film then?
i think what is intriguing about this film is that, even though it might appear biased or one-sided, the most important thing is that what is said about the US healthcare system in the film is so true, even though we couldn't verify if the case studies in the film are real or not, there are just so many other examples to exemplify how crippled the system is. We don't even need any comparison to understand this simple fact, that the system definitely needs to be fixed.
one thing i am not so content though is that, moore seems to be missing to address some important issues which i definitely wanna learn more, and there also seems to be a lack of statistical information to prove some of his claims.
Certainly moore is smart to compare the US system with other countries', amplifying the contrast (e.g. a guy in canada got all 5 of his fingers cut and received immediate service and recovered vs a guy in the US got 2 of his fingers cut and was told to choose between paying $12k or $60k for each of the fingers, and he eventually paid for the $12k finger and lost one finger), but one might question whether those countries' system are really as flawless as he presented? for example, even though the service is free, he seems to never mention the question about tax in those countries..
anyway, i guess it is a film that is definitely worth a look, especially for those living in the US.. but just remember not to take everything without digesting and analyzing, as we know, documentary can be one of the most powerful propaganda tools...
Don't forget your dream!
