oh i think i saw this one...

I remember when In the Real of the Senses came out in the early 70s. There was a firestorm of controversy around the film. I've never had a chance to see it. I guess it is something everyone should see at least once. Given the rating, I wonder if Netflix has it? I know Blockbuster won't carry any film that has an NC-17 rating. More than a few reputable filmmakers have found that making films that focus on sexual relationships tends to push the film into NC-17 category and then all sorts of strange things happen in the US around where it can be shown, who will and will not advertise it, etc. It seems that Lust, Caution made more money on DVD (and was seen by a lot more people) than in theaters in the US. I was lucky the local art house showed it for a few days. Having seen it on the big screen and on the little screen, there is something about acres of naked, gyrating flesh on the big screen that just can't compare to seeing it on a television screen. Funny thing is that hardcore porno always comes across better on the little screen. Back in the dark ages (early 80s) there was a drive-in theater in the next town that specialized in XXX features. Sometimes a body part really can be too big!

I saw it on digital tv in japan with no subtitles. It was pretty uncensored...
