Join CAA on Saturday, May 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at I-Hotel Manilatown Center, 868 Kearny Street, for a reception honoring our Helen Zia Fellows for Social Change with a special guest appearance by Helen Zia herself. This is the first year of the fellowship program, which seeks to train API college and university students in California to be progressive leaders for change on their campuses.
Fellows to be honored include Wendy Chuah (Stanford), Kenny Gong (City College of San Francisco), Maggie Kong (UCSC), Siddharth P. Kulkarni (UCSD), Cynthia Liao (Stanford), Carmina Ocampo (UCLA), Chibo Shinagawa (Mills College), Trangdai Glassey-Tranguyen (UCSD), and Daniel Wu (USC). Each was selected on the basis of their leadership potential, commitment to serving their API community, and interest in advancing social justice.
During their terms as fellows, they conducted campaigns to advance pressing social justice issues, such as marriage equality, immigrant rights, environmental justice, and workers’ rights. They also served as active participants in the statewide API Policy Summit in Sacramento, and strengthened their development as emerging API leaders for progressive change. Find out more about their accomplishments at the May 17 reception. Light dinner and refreshments will be served.
