From filmmakers Duc & Mai-Phuong Nguyen:
As you’ve probably heard, our humble film received 2 Emmys on May 16th at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco:
1) “Outstanding Achievement in Documentary” to Duc Nguyen and
2) “Music Composition” to Mark Izu.
In attendance were 14 friends and our proud parents. Needless to say this was a HUGE win for the overseas Vietnamese community. Because of our film, over 2.0 million diasporic Boat People are now no longer ’silent’ nor ‘invisible’. More importantly, for us Viet-Americans, our stories and legacies are now a part of the American fabric.
For those of you who’ve NOT yet caught the B52 as it has moved throughout PBS nationwide during Asian Heritage Month of May, here is your final chance this weekend in the Bay Area:
BOLINAO 52 airdates on KQED WORLD (Comcast 190. Digital 9.3 or Channel 9 in Napa Valley on public TV)
Sat, May 30, 2009 — 11:00 pm
Sun, May 31, 2009 — 5:00 am
Wed, Jun 3, 2009 — 9:00 am
Wed, Jun 3, 2009 — 12:00 pm
(Because of the win, we got 2 more air dates in June, which thankfully, are more ‘normal’ viewing hours…oh what 2 Emmys can make in terms of time slots!) Finally, for those in education or community service groups, the Educational DVD of BOLINAO 52 with discussion guide is available for purchase on our website: www.bolinao52.com.
Once the film has made it’s final nationwide broadcast, a simple viewer DVD will be for sale on the website as well. For families, students and viewers who want to see this film in your local libraries, high schools, colleges, universities, you can approach these administrations and request that your institutions PURCHASE this DVD and make it part of your Ethnic Studies, Asian-American Studies, or Cultural Competency curriculum! (That’s right: take back your education and DEMAND good stuff for yourselves and your children’s education!) This is the true BEAUTY of our democracy: self-empowerment!
At any rate, THANKS TO ALL our friends, supporters and the B52 Team for your loving support over the last 5 years. Truly, it has been an incredible journey that continues to exceed our most wildest imagination!
With deep gratitude,
Duc & Mai-Phuong
