The US Open Tour for Tennis came rolling into the Bay Area this past week and I must say it was super fun!! Played on the gorgeous Stanford campus and with players like Serena Williams, Lindsay Davenport, and Marion Bartoli, the week long tournament was bound for excitement.
Just some of the amazing tennis...
I love tennis, but to be honest, I love anything even lightweight competitive like rock, paper, scissors. So when I heard the US Open was coming to my home town, I thought amazing, I get to go home for a week and watch some live competition. I watch tennis on tv but I must say after seeing it live, I have a new found appreciation for women's tennis. It is way super INTENSE. I was able to watch Serena Williams live (sorry my camera died, i know right!? why do cameras always die at the most inopportune moment?) and she is one scary woman on the court. If you think those grunts are loud on tv, in person it is like monster status. Though her game was little off that night, she won the match in 3 sets, dropping the first one. Unfortunely, she had to withdraw from the tournament cause of a knee injury.
On a random side note, the US Olympic Men's swim team was training at the Stanford Aquatic Center while the tournament was going on and I had to see for myself. Though I personally do not find the sight of men in Speedo's aesthetically pleaseing, the US Olympic Men's swim were definitely pulling them off. I think them and perphaps Brad Pitt are the only people who could do that so umm, Go USA!
But here are some pictures from throughout the week and if the US Open Tour is coming to a city near you, I totally recommend going. Its good times!
Some forehand returns
A volley at the net
A fierce serve
