If y’all know your history you may have gathered that I am heading to San Antonio.
Yes, I’ve ben using Y’all quite often. And as my best friend also pointed out, I am using more souther phrases as I hear them and commit them to my vocabulary. Words like “thank you much” and “howdy” I have never used in 34 years of my life until this trip. But they are fun words to use. And the more I hear these idiosyncratic words and phrases, the more I appreciate the Southern accent.
We set off at day break for a relative short two hour drive so that we could get in to SA with plenty of time to spare for our first event. A San Antonio Spurs game. More on that later. Along the way we had planned a few food stops and among other things, a stop at an outlet mall just outside of Austin. I love outlet malls. They are incredibly efficient and making me spend my money, which I am happy to do so under the idea that instead of charging me ridiculously exorbitant amounts of money for clothing, I am now paying a mildly exorbitant price instead. However a quick stop ended up being a five and a half hour shopping trip. We did have a female amongst our midst so it meant for more thorough analysis of products in many stores. I just did lots of walking, which I needed after all the food I had in San Antonio.
But that’s besides the point, we are going to AT&T Center to watch the San Antonio Spurs. Though I was always a casual fan, I’m a Golden State Warrios Fan, when the Spurs were playing at the Alamodome and had Robinson and Tim Duncan on their roster, that was truly one of the most exciting teams to watch outside of the Jordan/Pippen and Shaq/Kobe lineups. This time around, I was excited to see Tim Duncan, a sure-fire NBA Hall of Fame inductee and an already legendary basketball player. And although, they no longer had David Robinson among their ranks, they certainly have filled that gap with some solid perimeter shooters and quick young talent that can cut into the basket on command.
On a night celebrating war veterans at the arena, I was surprised to see the spurs wear special camouflage inspired Basketball kits and an appearance by many local veterans including NBA legend and Military man David Robinson!
The Spurs won by a large margin that night, and The Washington Wizards were obliging opponents. It was a fun night and the atmosphere in AT&T Center was electric. People cheering all USA military themed celebratory events, and the return of Robinson brought on a loud cheer. I even got on the bandwagon and tweeted about the veterans and it made it onto the jumbotron. Proud moment there.

It was a good first night to spend in San Antonio. And based on that, I already knew that the city had a lot more exciting things for me. I’m already liking this place.
