Just when you thought I was out.... they pulled me back in to release a single!
"Diu Lei Lo Mo" by Joe Theoretical now available to buy or stream on Reverbnation.
That's right everybody! Joe Theoretical is back! I put the hip hop thing aside for a while to focus on screenwriting, but lately I felt a bit of the music bug again. So I've been spending a little time finally finishing up a lot of my "work-in-progress" tracks that you've heard randomly over the last year or so.
The first up to get the big finish-a-roo was my track "Diu Lei Lo Mo" which I first started working on at the beginning of the year. The message of the song is pretty clear, I think. For those not familiar with the term, Diu Lei Lo Mo basically means "I f*ck you mother." So that's basically what the son is about.
Since I tend to get asked this question a lot of "what inspired the lyrics to this song?" I might as well answer. hahah
So basically I was in the shower one day and I started thinking to myself "what if I find myself in a rap battle? What will I say?" I asked this, being that my freestyle ability is kind of crap, quite honestly.
So I started thinking of lines that would have just the right amount of talking big about myself and talking smack about others. So I jumped out of the shower and typed down what I had come up with so I wouldn't forget.
At the same time, I had started thinking about experimenting with putting in some lines of Cantonese lyrics in my songs... although this seemed like it would be tricky, given that I hadn't learned much Cantonese at that point.
As I started seeing that the lyrics I was coming up with for this imaginary rap battle started taking on the theme of talking smack about a guy's mom, I decided to pair it up with one of the few Cantonese phrases I knew at the time and VOILA! "Diu Lei Lo Mo" was born.
Needless to say, it's a very dirty song and not for the faint of heart... plus Raffi, Patrick and Stephen are probably shaking their heads in displeasure and disbelief right now as they read this entry. But for those with a bit of a twist to their sense of humor, I hope you like this track and support me by buying a download of it. Or at the very least, passing the word out to your friends.
Thanks! :D
