Hey guys,
By now many of you have probably seen my short film entry for the One2Free contest, as my posting of the video is now in the AnD front page "In the spotlight" section (" My second directorial effort...".
Otherwise, here it is again..
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8h_uMtrqlM Wanted to give a bit more of the story behind us working on this project as well. :)
Even before considering entering this contest, my lovely co-producer and lead actress, Angie Palmer, and I were talking about a next project to work on together. We liked working together in Zac Moss' entry for the School of Seven Bells "The Night" music video contest on Genero.tv (Check out that video here... http://genero.tv/watch-video/32911/) and wanted to team up again for something new.
The important thing for both of us was to work on something different than what we had worked on before. I found that most of my projects, I'm playing the wise ass, NY style, wise guy or the jokey funny guy. And Angie said that she wanted to play something besides "the crazy woman."
So after meeting and brainstorming a bit, we realized that the one thing neither of us had been in was a romantic comedy. So that was our goal! Coincidentally, along came the One2Free Fast Love Short Film Contest, in which they were looking to finish up the story of Alan and Jeannie, who spent a day starting to fall in love over Instagram and One2Free's 4G network.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aLWB30hQWI So we both figured, here was the perfect opportunity for us. :)
So we started planning out what we wanted to shoot. We decided that we really wanted to stay true to finishing Alan and Jeannie's love story as set up in the promo. We came up with the idea of flashbacks to school and how Alan would finally win her over in the end and then we went to work.
We wanted to recreate as much from the original as possible including costumes and props, down to even the umbrellas that they were carrying.
Plus we needed to shop for school uniforms to do this "You Are The Apple of My Eye" inspired flashback sequence. Here's me and Angie trying on our uniforms at a store in Prince Edward. There were actual school kids shopping for uniforms in the store, who were looking at us like we were out of our minds. hahaha
Once we had everything set, we brought in Jona Lam on the team to handle cinematography and Jae Leung to be our third cast member as Jeannie's bad boy high school boyfriend. And thus our Fast Love contest team was born! We spent one day shooting, I spent the next day editing and scoring the film and voila! mine and Angie's first time doing a romance was plastered on Youtube for all to see!
Here's some more behind the scenes pics...
Walking from the restaurant that we convened and changed into costume to our set in a park in East TST.
Taking a break after the first location's shoot and getting some fro-yo. Not sure why my arm looks so messed up in this pic. I blame it on weird lighting in the Tuttimelon.
Getting in costume for the present day scenes.
Here are some of the instagram pics we took for the video.
The picture from back in the day.
Joe Fiorello as Alan Luk and Angie Palmer as Jeannie Cheong.
So hope you enjoy our flic. Please pass on and support! And keep your fingers crossed that we can pull off a good showing in the contest. ;);)
