As I sit here waiting for five red lights to signal the start of the final Malaysian F1 Grand Prix, my emotions are mixed. I admit to being one of those fans who have chosen to attend the GP in Singapore over my home race – mainly because I live here now – but (and as much as I hate to say it) SIC really needed to up their game. Being a circuit – and an absolutely stunning one – an hour out of the city, a die-hard fan like me just needed the simple things to work after making the journey which often involved a 2-hour traffic jam: working turnstiles, cut grass, clean toilets and, the biggest of my laments, enough parking! But having said all that, I am inexplicably sad that this is the last time our track will be hosting an F1 Grand Prix. Part of this comes down to the fact that the Malaysian GP has become one of the more interesting races on the calendar – you never know if you’re going to watch your favourite team and drivers race in the scorching heat or pouring rain. Entire team strategies have had to change not only overnight… but in 15 minutes. Sepang and the GP-weekend have also given me some of the best memories an F1 fan could ever ask for – from being the face of our live local F1 broadcasts for numerous seasons (including the one race where we got completely rained out – thanks Alex Wurz for saving our asses!) to being driven on the circuit in a two-seater F1 car! (got the other Alex to thank for that) I have had some of the best times of my life – both on and off the track. So thank you Sepang, and here’s to your big #F1NALE
