To all those residing in Singapore...
I'm highlighting an email that I received recently, some thing that is close to my heart..
Project Nakshathra is an initiative by ISLE India to alleviate problems
faced by Sri Lankan refugees in India by providing them with essential
resources so as to empower them to break out from the vicious cycle of poverty. To address the problem of low literacy levels, the team hopes
to collect education materials to benefit the children there. When I was in primary school, there was this mural on the brick wall that wrote: Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Of course, as a child, my understanding of the proverb was limited. Yet I have been giving more thoughts to this issue lately. With all the sufferings, disasters and poverty in the world, what is the best way to help? While I am supportive of those who contribute to alleviating the effects of either disasters or poverty, I am more inclined to support education. Education for people who live in areas prone to disasters, so that they can better protect themselves and their family the next time crisis strikes. Education for the poor so that they can move out of the poverty cycle. Education for the sick, so that they can recover successfully and prevent themselves from catching new viruses.
I don't expect everyone to agree with my thoughts, but for those who understand where I am coming from, and able to lend a helping hand, please extend that love and kindness you possess. Furthermore it requires almost minimal effort from your part because arrangements will be made to collect the books from you directly.
Also, you will receive a $5 PageOne voucher upon donation.
So please support this noble cause, as the underprivileged really need you. The organization is accepting old books of all types. To donate, kindly contact Bao Rong at 94218466 or drop us an email at project.nakshathra08@gmail.com
