So I found out that yesterday's public holiday was 重陽節 because it's 九月初九 in the lunar calendar. History has it that the number 9 is a "yang" number, so on this date it has too much "yang" making it a dangerous date. So traditionally it is customary to climb up a high mountain, drink chrysanthemum liquor and wear the zhuyu (茱萸) plant.
Coming to Hong Kong has exposed me to more Chinese customs and I love finding out about this interesting festivals which we don't celebrate back home. So yesterday, we did a 16.55km hike up to The Peak (though unplanned ?) and felt like we were following the customs of 重陽節! As you can see in the photo that Moscow was exhausted!
