People often ask me, "How does a collaboration happen?" I'll tell you. Jake from @jbfcustoms & I met in Feb at a launch event I did in DC for @Naturel x @staplepigeon. We never met before but we were mutual fans of each other's work & it was great he came out to @MajorDC to show love. We met. Traded info. And that was it. No talk of a colab then. That's the #1 mistake I see ppl make. People wanna colab too quickly. Like, do u meet a girl & say "So what do u think about procreation? You know...wit me." Anyway, we'd just share with each other new shit we had going. We didn't talk colab until June. Then he came out to NYC & we brainstormed. Shopped for fabrics. Talked sneakers, kicks, culture & before u know it, the idea was coming to life. He had his new Primo Hi model out. I wanted a low. I don't really rock high tops cuz, well, I'm short as u can see and he belongs in the nba. I made some other adjustments to the patterns & then we talked leathers, color blocking, logo details, etc. @PMotta came in the clutch with the lasering of the #?. The good ppl at @aglit_italy brought in their expertise in lace work. We unveiled our baby @reedspace yesterday & some cool ass peoples came out to meet us, see the shoes in person & dap it up. Jake can only make 5 pairs of these. People ask why so few pairs. Cuz JAKE is making these. With only his own 2 hands. FROM SCRATCH. That's what's so special about these. And I promise we will ONLY make FIVE pairs of these. Forever. We put the 5 pairs up on eBay yesterday at 1pm & started the bidding at $1.00. Bidding will continue for a week. (Search "JBF Staple" on eBay). We also did a few tees & caps which go online Monday. Then at the end of the day, @isabel.lasala took this photo @reedspace & u can see by the looks on our faces we were pretty happy with how this all went down.
