Oscar Short Films - Hong Kong Film makers do it!

I went to see the short films nominated for Oscars.  We saw them at the Academy.  the event was sold out in 15 minutes!  People love this night.  We saw both the live action and the animation shorts.

It was a great night and I enjoyed seeing this great work.  As I sat in the dark watching these creations from all over the world I thought of all of you Hong Kong artists.  Why not make a short film that gets nominated?  I totally believe you can do that!

They are showing these shorts both in theaters and online.  Go to the Academy of Motion Picture ARts and Sciences site to find out how you can see them.  The director told us that night that they will be available on iTunes and some other places so I am sure you can find away to see them. 

As far as who will win?  I really don't know.  The group of people I was with all had different views and that's great.  They are definitely all winners. 

I have come to teach in Hong Kong a numbers of times and plan to be there again in May to teach workshops.  I want all of you to think about doing your own short films or be part of a team that creates a short film.  This is just one place where you can show your work. 

SO DO IT!  

I know some of you may want to know my picks for the Oscars.  If i am brave enough I'll put up a blog and put up my picks and I want to hear which one you think will win.  For now here are my picks for these two categories. 

ANIMATION SHORT

Who will probably win:  A Matter of Loaf and Death

Who could win and my personal pick:  Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty

LIVE ACTION SHORT

Who will probably win:  Kavi

Who might win and my personal pick:  The New Tenants

but I loved Kavi as well!
