I've been meaning to write a blog for ages but I've been completely consumed with the shooting of my new movie, Jasmine, written and directed by AnDer, Dax Phelan. It's been an tough shoot with lots of ups and downs but there have been some really enjoyable moments, too.
The story is about a man who returns home to Hong Kong to deal with the aftermath of the murder of his wife. It's been extremely taxing emotionally, but I've been fortunate to work with so many good people who believe in the project.
One of the things I've been so pleased about is how many actors we auditioned and cast in the film from the acting workshops that I've been organizing for the past year with Jeanne Hartman. Of course, I got to know Jen Thym from the class and was honoured to have her come onboard the film as our producer. I'm still searching for a cameo for her. Grace Huang is the title character and my wife in the movie, Jasmine. The quality of the acting at the auditions was fantastic and my only disappointment was that there weren't enough roles to go around. Some of the alumni that I really wanted to cast in substantial roles were Stephanie Fodor and Jayson Li but we'll have to save you for next time guys! I promise this is only the first of many movies we'll be making.
I'd also like to thank actor-directors, Tony Shyu and Ezra Emerson for, not only, taking the class but for being such fantastic sports and helping us fill out our bar scenes! Hmm... not much acting going on there, I suspect. One of the great things about working on Jasmine was working with fellow actors and AnDers, Eugenia Yuan, Glen Chin, Byron Mann, Sarah Lian, Kate Sullivan, Simon Yin, Rob Lok, Jane Wong, Cara G, Matt Hendrichs, Jo Jo Yee and Brian Yang. Thanks for being in the movie, it means a lot to me.
Once, I finish shooting Jasmine I'll be moving right into hosting Jeanne Hartman's new acting workshops in Hong Kong in December. Jeanne has been my acting teacher since the start of my career and I'm always proud to bring her out here. She's top class. If you want info on her HK workshops, please click HERE. I hope to see you all there!
