Daisuke Ito, AKA ”Ido daisuki” (“loves motion”), an often overlooked figure of Japanese history whose creative camera movement and nihilistic protagonists earned him a reputation as one of the top film directors before the heyday of Kurosawa and Ozu, as well as scrutinization from the government pre-WWII.
See articles at Wild Grounds and Midnight Eye for more information, and join us tonight at Japan Society for a screening of Ito’s 1960 film, SCAR YOSABURO.
