What Would Jesus Buy?

hello everyone.  it's been a long time since i last updated.  been really busy with the doc.  got back from Georgia a couple of weeks ago, but will be heading back there in a week.  thank you everyone for stopping by and checking in on me.  there is so much love in this community, i love it!!!

since Christmas is coming i want to let you know about this documentary i watched today called What Would Jesus Buy?

synopsis: What Would Jesus Buy? is the title of an upcoming documentary film produced by Morgan Spurlock and directed by Rob Van Alkemade. The film focuses on the issues of the commercialization of Christmas, materialism, the alleged over-consumption in American culture, globalization, and the business practices of large corporations, as well as their economic and cultural effects on American society, as seen through the prism of activist/performance artist Bill Talen, who goes by the alias of "Reverend Billy", and his troupe of activists, whose street theater performances take the form of a church choir called "The Church of Stop Shopping", that sings anti-shopping and anti-corporate songs. The film follows Billy and his choir as they take a cross-country trip in the month prior to Christmas 2005, and spread their message against what they perceive as the evils of patronizing the retail outlets of several different large corporate chains.

it's an ingenious idea.  i don't think the film has a wide release, so you need to do some digging to see if it's playing in your city.

also here is a really important PSA about the consumption and waste American goes through and how that effects the environment.  even if you don't live in the U.S.A it's something you should still watch.  it will make you think twice before you buy something.  so please, please, please watch the clip.  it's about 25 minutes long, but very well worth your time.

http://www.storyofstuff.com/index.htmlif you watched the PSA i thank you from the bottom of my heart.  also i will blow kisses at you.  let me know when, so you can catch them :Pso please think twice before you go out and buy a shit load of stuff for Christmas this year.thanks for reading.sincerely,Jae-Ho current music: "Music is My Hot, Hot Sex" by CSS

Looks really thought-provoking. I'd like to take a look at this when I can get a minute to sit down. Thanks for sharing. I'm all for something different in film--but you already knew that...

i heard about the Surlock documentary, it looks interesting, i'm glad to know that reverend guy is acting too, i was seriously worried that was a real guy. :-P i watched the first half of 'story of stuff' yesterday... i actually disliked it quite a bit. I find her arguments to be a bit too simplistic and the statistics thrown about a bit too haphazardly... (at the beginning where they talk about upgrading computers, I could instantly tell they didn't really know what they're talking about).

Hi Jae-Ho, I am coming to COLLECT MY KISS! Haha! Thanks for the link to the "Story of Stuff" presentation. I think all human race on earth should take a look and do our part in lessening the problem... I will definitely share the link with all my friends! Hey, I really look forward to seeing the ULTIMATE CHRISTIAN WRESTLING! I think the subject matter is really interesting and I believe the docu-drama approach would work well! In fact, it is also my dream to be able to make a powerful and entertaining movie with Christian values one day, but I guess it is very difficult to do it well because from all the Christian movies made in Hong Kong so far, I found them too "Christian", boring and "unnatural" to watch even though I am a Christian myself... I guess many Christian filmmakers are very well intended, but I guess it is not easy.... I think movies like "Bruce Almighty" and "The Sign" are quite good. BTW, I like your look. You look a bit like So Ji-Sub whom I love in the Korean drama series "I'm Sorry I Love You" (hee!)

thank you everyone for the comments. i wish there was a reply button for each comments. • Etchy - i agree with you about the computers, but i think it's a valid enough argument about how we are ruining the earth. • unwoundclock - GA is great. will be heading down there again this Saturday. people are really so nice here that they would not out right be racist towards me. i've gotten more racist remarks in NYC. but when i go to rural areas they seem to look at me with a curious eye. it's understandable, since Asians are very in the sticks. • RenRen - good for you. i am in the same boat with you about the gifts and being low on cash :) • luna16 - that's SO depressing. it doesn't surprise me about the mega industries. why are they always so evil? • peachey - good for you. i like the way you think. • Rage - hope you like the doc. let me know what you think. • butter - i am asking family and friends to do the same about making donations instead. i can't believe i haven't thought about doing that much sooner. • Jaine - that's great that you started recycling many years ago. tells us a lot about what kind of person you are. you have such a kind soul. the kisses are in the mail. • rottendoubt - depressing indeed :(
