Upskirts, Flowers, and a new artwork

Howdy, cowboys!

Papavaraceae/ Liu Dao 2012

A beautiful red hibiscus-like flower has been spinning in crazy glory on island6′s walls these days. Papaveraceae, otherwise known as the lovely, opiate-giving poppy, is the result of a happy collaboration between the island’s creative camera-wielding team and the talents of our latest  victim performer. Curator Jack Mur articulates the inspiration behind the artwork – a fantastical, romantic narrative of dreams and fears.

Their velveteen depths ever drawing her, she yearns and yet fears the solitude of stillness. Adrift. Each heartbeat, now released, forestalling that silent clamor. A serene smile upon her lips. This blossom will fall at the feet of her majestic home. On a twirling descent she will keep adventuring, until the cold finality. There is a joyous freedom in her eternal plummet – head down, arms out. Lost in her own thoughts, lost in her eternal pirouette. An empty shell down to her last magical dance. Images collide into each other as the Celtic maple spins ever faster. Free-falling. As a centrifuge, her wings reaching further and further out. Soon, the tension will be too strong; soon, she will dissolve at the touch of the icy, hard surface. With one last twirl, she relinquishes all life.

Here are a couple of stills from our shoot with the lovely, graceful Annabella.

Look, ma, ankles!
