“Unrequited Love” (单恋)

The iconic blue hair and the red lips illuminate a girl’s face, similar to the character ‘Emma’ in the movie‘Blue Is The Warmest Colour’ [1].  Both girls are sharing the sense of   ‘Unrequited Love’. The notion of desire for the loved one and the contradiction in sexuality with themselves and families, while lesbian love is still controversial in the contemporary world.

The island6 crew once again utilize their talent in New media Art, emerging the color of the vivid ‘blueness’ with clever LED, attempting to convince the viewer with her gesture that she is making-up in front of the mirror. This optical illusion technique almost brings us to imagine that she is coming into our gallery with her sexy plump and  ‘electronic crimson’ red lips any moment now.

I just wanted to get closer to her you know, that beautiful bitch. For me it was the challenge, before it had always been so easy. Girls throw themselves at me wherever I go, what can I say? It’s my enigmatic charm. Some people may call me arrogant, I call them jealous. I never loved any of these girls though; hearts are for pumping blood, as far as I’m concerned. Saying that, I thought I was in love once, it turned out just to be wind. Lactose had never agreed with me much. Anyway, I digress. This one was different. I just couldn’t take my eyes off her, I was enamoured. I never thought I’d be the one in unrequited love.
