I love the feeling, when you travel somewhere new, whether it is a new country or even an area in your hometown you have never visited before. Everything is drenched with detail and the experience is very rich.
Whenever I walk through Sheung Wan I have this feeling, despite walking down the same streets before, there is always something new to see. Hip coffee shops, coffin shops, art galleries, antique and curio stores; simultaneously spilling with junk and treasures co-exist together, creating an atmosphere that feels simultaneously nostalgic and current.
I feel that is the ideal setting for island6’s new gallery. Like Sheung Wan, the art of Liu Dao embraces and combines the past, present and future creating a narrative and context that is continuously evolving, and relevant to contemporary culture, whilst staying true and being proud of it’s past.
