island6 returns to one of the many lands that we claim ties to as we exhibit the work of Liu Dao at Art Paris Art Fair 2014. The fair commenced with an exclusive invitation-only vernissage on Wednesday, March 26th, and is open to be public from March 27th – 30th. Art Paris is an annual modern and contemporary art fair that features the year’s new and exciting art, design, and photography, so of course we were there! Art Paris is held at the Grand Palais des Champs-Elysées, more commonly known as the Grand Palais. The Grand Palais is a Beaux-Arts beauty constructed of iron and delicate steel framing, and was built in preparation for the Universal Exposition of 1900. The structure has hosted Chanel fashion shows and World Fencing Championships, so its eclectic and cultural history renders it a fitting host for the multimedia work of Liu Dao.

We are especially thrilled to exhibit the work of Liu Dao at Art Paris this year, as the fair has chosen China as its guest of honor. China’s invitation to be featured as the fair’s honoree was made in celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of relations between France and China. As an international arts center, island6 is always on the hunt for ways to bridge any cultural gaps, and Art Paris is a sizable bridge! island6 is one of ten Chinese galleries selected to exhibit at the fair, along with twenty or so Western galleries, and around ninety Chinese artists.

We know that not all Liu Dao-philes could make the trip to Paris, so we’ve selected some of our favorite photos to display here for your viewing pleasure.
