island6-style Summer Delirium: The island fills up with Oddities

As a hot, sticky and humid July passes before the islanders, some of us have noticed things have definitely been taking a turn for the weird…

The sun beats down violently almost every day on 50 Moganshan Road,  and the district is bustling with perked-up patrons craving for some nice gallery-grade A/C. And yet a different mood lurks in the cool depths of the island6 Arts Center. Perhaps it was the impact of working for so long on such a strange theme, that eventually made it seep into our minds, bringing out the dark side in all of us.

Whatever it is, it seems our once naive and innocent staff have become desensitized to walking into the office amidst a collection of shackled ladies, strange devices and crushed chicks. And all this before morning coffee.

Stranger yet, all of this seems to unfaze both our visitors and our friends, who perhaps expect nothing less from our already – let’s admit it – strange and quirky art.

It’s all in good fun, right? We’re all (pretty) sure this is perfectly fine for all audiences. Hopefully.

Since our customs problems last month (see here) we’ve been receiving packages of Yüan Meng Ch’ien’s secret collection almost daily… everyday, at 2:45 AM, by the same faceless and hooded delivery-man, amidst a dark and eerie fog. And shortly after our weary eyes watch his shrouded cloak disappear into the night (too much?), we get to unpack the strangest objects, some intact, and some… not so much.

As always, we invite all of our followers to come by and see the collection themselves. We promise, it’s weird. And if you miss it, a little bird told me he’s seen a mystery ship heading its way to Shanghai. Probably around the 5th of September.

But then he died.
