What a way to kickstart my experience of this year’s Singapore Theatre Festival by @wildricesg! Had the joy of attending the opening night of the double bill 招: When the Cold Wind Blows + GFE - Huge congrats to the creatives, cast and crew of both shows for telling these familiar yet unfamiliar stories in such uniquely compelling ways. The former is a two-hander about how one man’s experience with the army continues to haunt him for sinister reasons, stars @joellowjw whose face you’ve probably seen everywhere, and is directed by Thong Pei Qin (whose acting module was a fond highlight of my drama minor journey in NTU!) The latter is a hilarious mostly Mandarin one-man show written and performed by Chong Woon Yong on one man’s experience with the various (or is it?) women in his life, that makes use of a laundry line of hanging white clothing to take us from his army bunk to the zoo to Geylang and back again. Yes, tonight I caught a double bill starring straight Chinese male characters. . My previous experience with the STF back in 2016- the last month of my 7 month stint with Wild Rice as a marketing intern- was filled with tons of running around, proofreading programmes, catching open rehearsals, days buzzing with adrenaline. Looking forward to making more memories with #wrstf2018 as a festival-goer this time!?
