Today, I shot a wedding film and by doing so I got the chance to test the new Follow Focus Snap-On Pro by @walimexpro who kindly sent it to me for review. Walimex Pro is probably best known for their distribution of Samyang lenses, but they also sell a lot of other professional film and photography equipment. The Follow Focus Snap-On Pro is really easy to work with. It snaps onto the 15mm bars effortlessly and a quick turn of a screw at the bottom moves the gear to or away from the lense's focus gear ring. The focus wheel has two stopping screws which allow you to set your custom stops. Once set, the follow focus comes to a stop as it reaches either of the screws. The build quality is solid and turning the focus wheel feels smooth and with some resistance, so pulling focus is really easy with this. . There was one thing that irritated me a bit. I have had another follow focus by Walimex called Follow Focus Quick-Stop. With this you had the option to continue turning the wheel into the same direction, even after reaching the custom stop. This is quite useful if you are filming a scene which has more than one mark for the actor. You'd turn the wheel until the actor reaches his first mark and you'd feel the first custom stop of the follow focus. Then the actor would say a line and continue walking towards the camera. With the Quick-Stop model, you could then just continue pulling focus into the same direction. . That being said, if you block a scene like that you are better off with a focus puller anyway. The better build quality, the smooth turning of the focus wheel and the easy assembly (a quick snap-on) makes this my new follow focus of choice on projects where I have to do both operate the camera and pull focus. If the budget allows I'd always go with a focus puller and a remote follow focus. But if not, then €249 for @walimexpro Follow Focus Snap-On Pro will get you set up. . Thank you @walimexpro for partnering up with me for this review. A video of focus being pulled with the Snap-On Pro is coming soon. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ @hussainfilming - daily posts of my filmmaking and travel photography. ▪️▪️▪️ ▪️▪️▪️ ▪️▪️▪️
