Shortly after graduating from Film University in Toronto, he has made several short films that were shown in film festival such as Vancouver Asian Film Festival and Red Light Center Film Festival, wining more then four awards. His style is marked by adding his strong fine art experience into the construction of dynamic camera work and dramatic editing. His distinctive style is recognized by famous celebrity Sammi Cheng and later she invited Herbert to work on her first short film. His work covers commercials, corporate videos, and promotional videos. Every project is approached in a different way, aiming to achieve a modern, dynamic and direct communication.

Aside from directing, shooting and editing, Herbert also worked on serveral graphic designs projects for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment; such as Zhang Yimou DVD boxsets, Talladega Nights DVD promotional poster, Blu-ray promo poster, and the 2007 SPHE Calendar.
