Finishing my TRX Training

Video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzODGa3z66YThis past weekend I finished myTRXtraining for group exercise training.  Many of my friends in the training world who know me know that I would not represent a product if I did not completely believe in it.  I have to say I completely believe in TRX training.  Like every mode of training I don’t believe that it is the end all be all of training.  However, if you need to travel, or just want one piece of equipment for your household I highly recommend the TRX.  It is compact versatile and completes 85% of the movements necessary for day to day activity.

I mentioned that it isn’t the end all be all of working out.  What does the TRX lack that people need for overall fitness? There are a few things that come to mind, but the main exercise or exercises that TRX leaves behind are deadlifts, open chain pushes, open chain pulls, weighted squats, and weighted lunges.  This is why TRX can only make up 85% of all movements.  Getting an 85% is pretty darn good! There are few if any other products out there that can compare to the versatility that the TRX has.

OK enough about the bad, onto the good.  Why do I like the TRX so much? I’m a rock climber and I love “close chain movements.”  I mentioned “open chain movement” in the paragraph above.  Close chain movements move your body away from the earth.  Open chain movements move an object away from your body.  Rock climbing, my favorite sport is a giant close chain movement.  But of course as a holistic exercise coach I like close chain movements because they mimic most of the movements in every day life.  Walking, squatting, lunging, pulling yourself out of the car, bending over, pushing yourself up off the ground, these are all close chain movements.  When a person exercises they should mimic these movements.  In doing so they work every muscle in their body to include the body’s “core.”  This way of training is “functional” so guess what you’re core is always on.  That means that you are always doing “core” exercises.

I've been meaning to order a TRX system for a few months now after I heard that a bunch of soccer teams in the UK use them. There are a couple of different packages on their website. Which one do you recommend? Do you think the basic $150 package will do? I was in SF a couple of weeks ago, I should have swung by your class! J

I'm not sure I get that moonchild? You're not into movement? Anything can be digressed. It doesn't have to be a huge crazy aerobic class.
