You cannot get sick from eating pork or pork products. However, the mutation into a human-to-human transmissible disease could turn into a pandemic. In the worst economic time in history, we need to ensure that fowl (chickens) are separated from swine (pigs) and not placed/slaughtered in the same vicinity. Check your local meat supplier to ensure that these meats are separately stored. The only worse thing to avian flu is mad cow's disease. Tamiflu is unfortunately EXPENSIVE and is indicated for usage after or near 48hrs of having flu-like symptoms. Tamiflu Side Effects: Possible Tamiflu side effects include: * nausea * vomiting * diarrhea * bronchitis * stomach pain * dizziness * headache More serious side effects have also been reported. According to the FDA, 'there have been reports (mostly from Japan) since Tamiflu became available of patients causing self-injury or experiencing delirium (confusion, hallucinations, speech problems) while using Tamiflu. Answer is we need to role out our preventative options for the people now. Everyone should carry 14 days supply of N95 3M masks. Stay safe

April 28 (Bloomberg) -- The World Health Organization, acknowledging the growing threat of swine flu, raised its global pandemic alert, saying the disease is no longer containable. The alarm level, raised to 4 from 3, is at its highest since the warning system was adopted in 2005, and the virus has been confirmed in the U.K., Mexico, the U.S., Canada and Spain.

Like anything, you'd rather not contract and then rely on Tamiflu. It is better to knock out the virus using something powerful like UV rays or even a broad spectrum fast acting sporicide. The problems with bleach is that it is very slow. Same concept goes for mosquitoes w/ malaria or Dengue fever. You'd rather reduce the mosquito population. Then wear clothing/materials to prevent bites. Finally, you would want an anti-malarial or drug to help post bites. We need to have better preventative approaches rather than rely on post contraction responses such as Tamiflu or even vaccines (this should be the very last line of defense). Wild Olive Leaf (Oleuropein) is known to block the receptor attachment sites of neuramidase position. Problem is there are only several forests left globally that have the wild leaf. Cultivated doesn't work the same.
