My badge said "Ghost Style" Artist with an orange sticker. I felt funny shaking peoples hands and introducing myself as 'Ghost Style' so, i just used 'Brandon'. That's just me trying to blend in. Which was silly, because the more i tried to blend in, the more I felt like oil in water! So, went back to just being myself. The people there were all friendly and seemed alright. Lots of talking. And then more talking. And then listening to people talking. This isn't complaining, because I enjoy listening and it was insightful for me what they were saying. I'll explain the whole thing in my layman's term.
It's about the music industry...or music business. How you gonna make music a business when nowadays music is essentially free? I listened about the telecos, the social networks, the mobiles, the indies, how content is either buffet or a la carte. Wow, if you think music business is about your CD...that's not where your head should be at. Music execs are intriguing, just for how they word things and they like swearing too! haha I dig it. I wanna be a music exec. What I realize for Asia is that each Asian country has their own system of the music business. Japan does it one way. Malaysia does it another. Hong Kong still finding a way. Korea is way away. There isn't one model for everyone to make money. Without a business model that works, Asia is divided...so, find a niche and snip a branch of the industry. So, if you're an artist, you can also, think of your own business model :)
For me the most interesting was Terry McBride. He's like a manager for big name acts. I was feeling what he was saying because he was actually talking about music. Music is emotional so, that's why it can touch people. Also, it's always about the fans. That's a simple but essential point. Why do we make music? You think you're a creative genius? Join the other 10 million around the world that think the same thing. We make music because it's us expressing emotions. It connects us to people that share the same feelings...your fans. That's dope. Got me thinking about all the people that supported what i do over the years. After I heard that, I just wanted to rush out and make some music. Rush out and create something meaningful to the world! Yeh, that's cheesy, but emotions are in essence cheesy! So, found a new respect for music and my fans! haha
Thanks to y'all for supportin' me and givin' me the energy to keep going.
